Fiber-optic CAN measurement module
imcAccess Co Ltd

With its new CANSASfdx-FBG-T8, imc claims to have solved the integration issues that have plagued fiber-optic CAN measurement modules until now. The new device is designed as a true plug-and-play offering that uses the CAN interface to transfer data either directly to a datalogger, or to an application or automation system.

One of the headline benefits of fiber-optic technology is that the measurements are not affected by electrostatic and electromagnetic influences – this is particularly important in the high-voltage environments of vehicles with electrified powertrains. EMI/ESD-related data corruption is thus eliminated, improving measurements and reducing the need for staff training, safety equipment and thick, insulated cables that hinder installation.

The particularly thin FBG temperature sensors with diameters down to 0.5mm make installation easier and enable new applications. For instance, they can be directly integrated into the windings of an electric motor without significantly influencing its properties.
