The world's largest global automotive testing and validation event saw record numbers of visitors heading through the doors today, as the show opened for the first time in a much bigger venue, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in the Pudong business district of Shanghai.
The show is considerably bigger than in any previous year in China, and filled with all the latest technologies to enable engineers to review the technologies that help ensure component and total vehicle reliability, safety, durability and quality. All the major global players are here at the show, which also runs every year in Europe, America and Korea, and in every other year in India.
Show founder Tony Robinson said that this is in many respects the most singularly important show for car manufacturers and their suppliers. It's the show that enables them to utilize technologies that ultimately can contribute to the elimination of recalls, something that costs the global automotive industry billions of dollars annually. And it's the use of these technologies, which are all relatively new to the pre-production shakedown and development processes, that has enabled passenger car quality to reach the very high standards that we see today.
