Porsche partners with Applied Intuition to develop and deploy vehicle software

Software supplier Applied Intuition has entered a partnership with the German auto manufacturer Porsche to co-develop automotive software while maintaining software ownership and reducing dependencies on black-box suppliers.

The aim of the collaboration is to reduce complexity and increase implementation speed of software integration. Porsche will use Applied Intuition’s expertise to develop, deploy and update vehicle software to provide “unique user experiences”, it said.

“Software and AI development is very different from traditional hardware-driven automotive development,” said Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition.

Nominations for the Automotive Testing Technology International Awards 2024 are due to close this Thursday, March 28. To be eligible, the product or service must have been launched after November 2022. New applications or developments of a long-standing solution will absolutely be considered.
Launched in 2006, the traditionally magazine-based ATTI Awards have grown each year. They are a non-profit-making enterprise designed to recognize and reward the fantastic achievements of the world’s top vehicle engineering suppliers and specialists across the testing sector.

Horiba MIRA expands UK crash testing facility

To strengthen the UK’s position in the automotive safety testing sector, Horiba MIRA has expanded and upgraded its Passive Safety Engineering Centre in the West Midlands.

The investment, supported by the government’s West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) funding partner, Frontier Development Capital, will extend the safety center by more than 40%, and will enable the delivery of legislative and NCAP crash test protocols. 

The upgraded facility will be extended by 85m – taking the total runway length to 170m – and will feature an extended crash laboratory and advanced equipment such as a new vehicle winch system and high-tech cameras.

IPG Automotive adds sixth German subsidiary


IPG Automotive adds sixth German subsidiary

Software company IPG Automotive has opened a subsidiary in Ingolstadt, enabling it to be closer to its German customers and bringing its number of German sites to six. Martin Laupitz, an experienced project manager, will be heading the new team in Ingolstadt.

The site will provide a location for virtual test driving and is set to begin operations in April, complementing the existing German subsidiaries in Karlsruhe, Braunschweig, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart.

Laupitz said, “We can no longer test the entire range of vehicle-integrated functions only on the proving ground or the road – they are just too complex.

ANGI begins construction on Midwest’s first hydrogen refueling test facility

ANGI Energy Systems, a Vontier company, has commenced the construction of its US$4m hydrogen refueling test facility in Janesville, Wisconsin. The facility, spanning 280m2, will be the first of its kind in the Midwest and is dedicated to testing and validating components and systems used in hydrogen refueling stations, particularly for heavy-duty trucks.

The breaking ground ceremony was attended by senior executives from ANGI and Fastech, an end-to-end energy solutions company specializing in the engineering and maintenance (EPCM) of conventional and alternative fueling infrastructure, along with representatives from the Janesville and wider Wisconsin community.

ZF Passive Safety Systems division rebranded as ZF LifeTec

The ZF Group has rebranded its Passive Safety Systems division as “ZF LifeTec” as part of the ongoing legal separation process of the division that it began in October 2022.

ZF LifeTec’s rebranding will support its strategy “to further increase sales and profitability as a standalone business”, ZF said in a statement.

Rudolf Stark, head of ZF Passive Safety Systems, said, “We are aiming for growth, driven by automotive megatrends and globally rising levels of safety regulations.

Josh Olphin becomes head of business development at Secondmind

Secondmind, a company that provides cloud-native optimization solutions to help engineers develop and design cars, has appointed Josh Olphin as its new head of business development for the EMEA region.

Olphin joins Secondmind from Dassault Systèmes, where he built a strong reputation for developing strategic partnerships that drove significant business growth in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
