Future refrigerant regulations for test chambers

The EPA AIM Act, which took effect in January 2022, has phasedown requirements in place for current and future regulations on environmental test chamber refrigerants and applications. Low GWP (global warming potential) refrigerants are needed for test chamber applications in the United States and globally.
R-404A has been a popular refrigerant for test chambers but comes with a high GWP. R-449A was specifically designed to replace R-404A, offering the same high performance and being better for the environment to support corporate and federal sustainability programs. Test and product engineers will need to be aware of the timetable of these future regulations to be sure they are following the new requirements and understand why refrigerant selection matters.
