Day 1: New oscilloscope for EV R&D showcased at Uni-Trend’s booth
Uni-Trend Technology

Uni-Trend Technology is showcasing its new MSO2204-S oscilloscope, which is designed to observe the output waveforms of motor inverters to ensure efficient power conversion and control. Engineers can use it to analyze motor current and voltage waveforms for performance evaluation and fault detection.

Pete Stoermer, the company’s national sales director for North America, noted, “Oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, spectrum analyzers and waveform generators are essential tools in the research and development of electric vehicle performance analysis. They help engineers and researchers monitor, analyze and troubleshoot various electrical signals and waveforms in EV systems.”

He went on to explain in more detail that DC power supplies play a crucial role in EV development by providing stable and controllable DC voltage and current for various testing and experimentation purposes. “Uni-T’s UDP3305S DC power supply provides the required voltage and current to test electric motors and inverters. Engineers can assess motor performance, efficiency and dynamic behavior under different load conditions.”

Spectrum analyzers are valuable tools for analyzing and characterizing electromagnetic emissions, signals and frequencies. They are especially useful in ensuring that EVs and their components comply with EMC standards and regulations. “Before sending EVs for formal EMC certification, the Uni-T UTS3084B spectrum analyzer can be used in pre-compliance testing to identify and address potential EMC issues early in the development process, reducing the risk of costly failures during formal testing,” Stoermer said.

Waveform generators are useful for various purposes, including testing electronic components and systems. R&D teams can utilize the Uni-T UTG9604T waveform generator to rapidly prototype and test control algorithms and electrical circuits in the early stages of EV development.
