Day 1: Aptiv discusses transition to video analysis in ADAS and EV validation
Aptiv Connected Services

At this year’s show, Aptiv Connected Services is exhibiting its Connect Qualifier technology. Director of business development, Kevin Price, highlighted the growing reliance on video for ADAS and EV validation, which enables engineers to see what was happening in and around a vehicle during a test.

As an example, Price said, “If you’re validating an automatic emergency braking system, you need to see where the obstacle was in relation to your vehicle, whether it was in motion and in what direction, and for that, you need video.”

However, he pointed out that analyzing video presents significant challenges if companies don’t have the right software. Combing through thousands of hours of video from test drives to find the few seconds when braking was active is an incredibly tedious process.

“Aptiv Connect Qualifier streamlines that process with event-based video collection that triggers when a pre-configured event occurs,” said Price. “Qualifier also aligns that video with a GPS map and a graph of data signals from the vehicle to enable troubleshooting.”

As the automotive industry transitions away from ICEs to EVs and introduces more ADAS into vehicles, this necessity for video analysis will only intensify.
