Acoustic beamforming array for greater portability
Scantek

At this year’s expo, Scantek will showcase its Nor 848B acoustic beamforming array for greater portability and higher resolution at low-frequency measurements.

Acoustic beamforming arrays, commonly known as acoustic cameras, enable the user to visualize different sound sources at different frequencies and source strengths. The ability to resolve sound sources spaced at close proximity at lower frequencies is mainly decided by the overall size and number of microphones being used. Although image manipulation techniques used on the beamformed results might give added resolution, the properties of the array still influence the results. Resolving this ‘size versus resolution’ issue is an ongoing challenge in the acoustic measuring market. Users demand systems that are small, lightweight and portable and which offer excellent resolution and the ability to use low frequency. This has been an impossible demand for a single system – until now.

The Norsonic Nor 848B Hextile acoustic camera is a module-based approach to an acoustic camera that gives the user both portability and great resolution for a wide range of low-frequency measurement situations. The array dish is hexagonal, offering greater flexibility to combine several tiles into larger systems. The Norsonic Hextile is a USB-based acoustic camera, with a single USB cable for both power and data transfer. No extra battery cable is needed. Visit the booth to discuss your application.
