The first EMR-based 1,000Hz machine and machine vision systems for surface evaluation
ABS Instruments Pvt Ltd, Rumul AG and Erichsen GmbH & Co

ABS Instruments Pvt Ltd, Rumul AG and Erichsen GmbH & Co KG are participating together in this year’s Automotive Testing Expo India. Rumul and Erichsen, pioneers in the fields of high-frequency fatigue testing and sheet metal, corrosion and surface testing respectively, have developed two new systems.

The first is the Rumul Gigaforte 1,000Hz Fatigue Tester. This machine from Rumul operates at test frequencies between 970 and 1030Hz, depending on the stiffness of the specimen. It is ideal for VCHF testing, as well as when quick turnaround times are required in HCF testing; for example, in the case of additive manufactured components.

The Gigaforte can go up to +/- 50kN and can perform load, stress, stroke, strain and acceleration control. Maintenance is very easy as the machine does not need power packs, oil coolers, etc and has no wear parts.

Erichsen has developed machine vision systems for surface evaluation. They can be used for various purposes including the quantification of surface damage due to corrosion (most different kinds of corrosion on one surface can be identified), stone hammer blow tests and cross-hatch cut tests. These systems also make data management much easier while removing operator variation in evaluation.

The systems in this category include: Quantiz, a high-performance system for evaluating most kinds of damage quantification including corrosion and chipping; GritScan, a machine vision system for primarily evaluating chipped surfaces; and CrossScan, a machine vision system for evaluating cross-hatch cut surfaces.

Experts from Erichsen, Rumul and ABS will be available at the expo for discussions about these systems as well as various other technologies.
