Sustainable solutions for engineering and testing in e-mobility
HBK – Hottinger, Brüel & Kjær

The future of mobility is electric. Commercial EVs, aircraft running on battery electric propulsion systems, and electric and hybrid ships are soon going to dominate the mobile landscape. The increasingly important aspect of sustainability plays a vital role in how providers of mobility are shaping their products.

Testing of drives and powertrains is a key task in vehicle development. In view of the substantial increases in efficiency next-generation cars and large utility vehicles need to offer, it is essential that every motor and every drive is precisely tested.

HBM provides a dynamic power analysis solution that records raw data, utilizes the full bandwidth of the HBM torque sensors and allows users to view signals without needing a power analyzer or oscilloscope. The eDrive system can be expanded to as many as 51 electrical power measurements and six mechanical power measurements, making it the perfect fit for simple or complex drivetrains.

Thermal analysis and thermal durability testing are crucial validation steps in development, before releasing a component, an overall powertrain or a vehicle to the market. Thermal validation has an influence on packaging, cooling and heating systems, overall lifetime, reliability and environmentally safe operation.

E-mobility designs will drive a new era of structural durability testing. New, lightweight materials and innovative structural concepts are needed to fulfill the demand for range, robustness, safety, energy and cost-efficiency.
