Lubrication testing
Blum-Novotest Inc

Because of the increasing number of e-drive development programs, as well as the increasing number of prototype samples taken for each program, Blum Novotest has developed a new test rig that can be used to investigate the lubrication of electric and all-wheel-drive powertrains under different working conditions. Various driving conditions such as uphill and downhill acceleration, deceleration and cornering can be simulated by tilting the specimen longitudinally and laterally.

The swing rig is ideally suited for three main types of testing. It can perform lubrication tests in either ambient temperature or between -40°C and +130°C. When testing lubrication in ambient temperature, a partially transparent housing can be used to allow video monitoring. When testing at higher or lower temperatures, a thermal box is needed, and disassembled parts have to be inspected directly after the test. Finally, the rig is suited to breather tests to prove the functionality of the housing vent. This type of test can be documented with a video recording inside the thermal box.
