Sensitive emissions analyzer
TSI Incorporated

As particle numbers (PN) and particle mass (PM) emitted by engines, vehicles and heavy-duty equipment decrease, they become more difficult to measure. This has led TSI to launch the Model 3098 Porous Tube Thermodiluter. It is a robust system – thanks to having no moving parts – with variable dilution and a sample conditioning system specifically designed for the company’s 3090 Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer. It provides accurate PN and PM measurements, even at low emission levels and for sub-23nm particles.

Its unique design consists of a primary porous tube diluter with low particle losses, joined by a heated catalytic stripper to remove volatile particles, and a second porous tube diluter to cool the diluted sample. The dilution factor can be monitored and controlled in real time, compensating for temperature and pressure changes inherent to transient testing. The 3098 coupled to the Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer enables the acquisition of time-resolved (10Hz) solid particle size distribution measurements. Along with recent improvements to the its instrument matrix, measurement data can be used to determine time-resolved PN and PM through the integrated size distribution method, all from a single instrument.
