Continental Tire the Americas recently opened its ISO 10844-certified noise, vibration and harshness test track to external customers.
To keep up with the constantly expanding vehicle industry and increased customer demands, Continental has opened its US NVH sound site for external vehicle manufacturers and engineering groups to conduct specific regulatory tests. The track is tucked away at the base of the Texas hill country on Continental’s 2,020ha facility and offers year-round testing in relative seclusion.
The 1.8km-long NVH flat track features a paved recording pad with multiple turnarounds. The recording area is 45m2 and suitable for specialized equipment setups. The NVH surface was built in an isolated section of the proving grounds to prevent noise interference. The four turnarounds – two in each direction – allow passenger cars and commercial trucks to reach the required test speeds.
The benefit of testing in South Texas is the ability to reduce development expenses by eliminating international shipping and downtime. The warm, dry winters and around-the-clock test capabilities make Uvalde Proving Grounds the ideal North American NVH test track.
