Flexible altitude testing
Horiba Instruments

Testing internal combustion engines at altitude conditions is essential, but full altitude chambers are costly, inflexible, often not representative of real-world conditions, and require a lot of space and power. Horiba has devised an alternative system that controls engine intake and exhaust pressure, as well as temperature, for engine and powertrain cells.

Mobile efficient dynamic altitude simulation (MEDAS) can also be used for chassis dynamometer applications covering steady-state and dynamic engine operation conditions and to keep a constant simulated altitude. It can simulate altitudes up to 5,000m (16,400ft) with mass flow up to 1200kg/h, and unlike altitude chambers, it can easily be moved and shared between test cells.
